GAVE INTO LOVE & WATCHED THE
BITTERNESS BURN

Oh, it was nights like this that lulled her away. She was allowed to slip into her thoughts, and gave way into the stillness that lingered around her. The moon was near full, and its white ghastly light caught onto the slender frame of the nineteen year old girl's t-shirt. The shirt being white captured the light and slowly came to life. It glowed, ensuring that quick glances her way would make most think this shirt in the distance would be a ghost. Her hazel eyes were shadowed beneath the overhang of a tree, and her eyes searched the black oblivion above her with contentment. The skies narrowed until she could no longer see beyond the horizon, and she exhaled to herself. It was a fairly warm night, and the humidity rolled onto her lightly tanned skin. Her wavy, blonde locks pulled back into a bun, and she looked peaceful as she sat in the grass. Her legs were curled up to her chest, and her chin was placed onto her knees as her arms wrapped around her black breeches. Her black paddock boots dug into the grass and dirt so she wouldn't be uncomfortable. Behind her a 16.3 hand high Thoroughbred stallion shifted with barely any sound. His light brown eyes locked onto the starry eyed girl before he returned to his relaxed demeanor beneath the sturdy tree. Lauren had been subconsciously aware that Doctor Love was around her, but as her eyes surveyed the stillness it enchanted her in ways that she couldn't necessarily understand herself nor explain it to anyone who might happen to be walking by at this unruly time of night. Perhaps that was her purpose to stay at the stables for so long. She had moved Doctor here after she ventured back to the stables, unable to fall asleep for some reason unbeknownst to her. Being alone - well sort of alone - lured her into a calm state of mind. As she watched the leaves sway in the canopies of trees, she slowly began to question as to why this night had been so different than all the rest. Before she could come up with some reasonable and understanding conclusion, her blood bay stallion nudged her shoulder firmly. In a swift movement, her dancer's body lurched into the air agilely before settling down. Her hazel eyes swelled with momentary fear, but slowly that fear subsided as the blinding fear ebbed away from her alarmed features. Doctor nickered at her, gazing off towards the distance before glancing at her. She nodded with uttering a word, trying to swallow down the gasp that had lodged itself within her throat. Her heart was still beating at a rapid rate when she and Doctor entered the stables.
It always surprised Lauren to see the stables so quiet, save for the shifting of hooves in stalls. It gave her very little comfort, and she ushered herself off towards the tack room. She returned seconds later with her arms full of racing tack for Doctor, and with his impatient body language worked with nimble hands to tack him up. Before she brought him out to the pasture, she had thoroughly brushed him. She placed the halter onto the wooden railing of the grooming stall in which she was in. She coaxed his mouth open to allow the bit in, and she smiled up at him appraisingly. As of late, he had been filled with energy that she often had to scold the three year old. It came with the price with the temperamental stallion in which she owned, but that was all worth the price. She grabbed the reins after she placed on her helmet, and led out the now prancing Doctor. He nickered enthusiastically before attempting to settle down beside his rider. Lauren halted him to step on tree stump to get onto his back. Placing her boots into the shortened stirrups she settled rather quickly. She knew she was all too tall to be an actual jockey, and that she couldn't race Doctor herself, but that didn't matter to her. Doctor was proficient as well as determined in anything he did, so long as Lauren was upon his back. She politely asked him to walk on with a gentle squeeze to his sides, and Doctor obeyed as he walked on the path that led to the race track. Lauren could feel the anticipation within him as his muscles began to bunch up and coil as though he was about ready to take off once the track was within view. Due to this, she shortened her reins to keep in his spiritedness that had risen, and Doctor huffed beneath her. She giggled lightly before matching the silence around her as though she were afraid to break it. She was going at a trot when the track came to her. Its groomed dirt surface was lit by not only the moon's light but the occasional dim lights that provided more than enough to see to the first turn. She gave a gentle pat to Doctor who pulled at the bit eagerly. Now now. You settle down, and then I'll let you run. She told him, and smiled as he settled down for the most part. He did little side steps as he couldn't contain his excitement anymore, and Lauren shook her head and rolled her eyes at the antics of Doctor. She guided him towards where would be a good starting point. He sensed this within minutes, and pranced the entire way there. He forced a snort through his nostrils, the excitement and tension building within his muscular body. As soon as she turned him around, and lined him up, Doctor gave a whicker before extending his legs.
In sync with him, Lauren rose out of the racing saddle. She leaned forwards, smiling as she felt his legs surge over the soft turf. His breathing ever so slowly quickening as his pace continued to pick up. Doctor's adrenaline passed through Lauren, and she could feel herself want to urge her faster, but refrained from doing so. If she encouraged him, there'd be no way to stop him. She knew better than no one, and that flicker of a thought crossed her mind, telling her she didn't mind. She wanted speed, and Doctor could do more than assist her in the request. Lauren mentally swatted the thought away and focused solely on the equine below her. She could feel his power and his strength as he continued to speed up. His pace never diminished, and he arrogantly gave a nicker up to her as though he were questioning her. Lauren gave a gentle scoff, though with the reverberating sound of hooves her scoff was whisked away and submerged beneath the noise. Doctor turned the first turn with expertise, taking everything in stride. Hesitantly, he shortened his strides to slow and preserve for the big finish at the ends. It was then that he was allowing Lauren to have full control, and Lauren knew this. Still within her position, she mentally counted down the lengths left towards the end. At the 500 mark, she let him have his head, and Doctor responded instantly. His speed once more picked up, and with this newly founded freedom, proceeded to gallop towards the end. There was no fear upon the girl's face but rather thrill as Doctor picked up speed more than he had at the beginning. Faster, Doctor. She encouraged him with a small smile, and held back a laugh of excitement as Doctor approved her request. His legs lengthened considerably, and his pace rose as well. Lauren grinned as they passed over the end, but instead of slowing him, she allowed him to continue for a "victory lap." She exhaled the breath in which she had been holding in since her suggestion for him to go faster. That look of pure happiness highlighted her hallowed out and shadowed features, exposing a mysterious aura that surrounded the duo. They were just two loners in the night, and there was neither fear nor thoughts of the paranormal or anything of the sort. It was just a rider and her horse, welcoming the night.
