KC CASTiNE DANE
The clock startled her out of a rare sleep. Numbers blinked somewhere between 5:30 and 5:45, her eyes hadn't quite focused enough for her to tell the difference. Ah well. She swung her legs lazily from the bed, and off the start the day with a rather quiet bang. It'd been a week and a half since she'd last ridden her energetic gray, Corey. Being out of town had its ups and major downs. Corocotta could go hardly two days without being ridden before he went... bonkers? They often say horses need time off. Time to be a horse. A mental break. If Corey had a mental break, he would go mental. And today, the day she had to deal with the horse, was one she was not exactly excited to embark on, but seeing her beloved, crazed horse, was a light in any darkness.
KC yawned and stretched her arms high above her head. If high was possible for a five foot five girl to reach. Startling blue eyes were wide open, having a kind of sleep-deprived look to them, but she wasn't, and she wouldn't look so exhausted after getting to the barn. Her light blue polo clung to her skin, and was rather sunny, perhaps the only light in the still dim morning. Her hair fell loose on her shoulders, curling around itself in its own natural way, but there was a hair tie on her wrist, awaiting use. Her breeches were a second skin, and her tall boots a third.
Less than an hour later, she was striding down the dimmly lit barn aisle, a whistle on her lips. The sound she gave was low, uncomplicated, but beckoning. As if on cruise control, KC pushed her finger through her hair, the few strands escaping, too short to be collected by the tie, framed her face, and she jerked it into a messy, but cute low ponytail.
The neigh broke the silence, many horses pricking their ears, and even causing KC to wince at the abrupt noise. "Hey, baby." She cooed pleasantly as the dappled gelding shoved his head over the stall door, a foreleg striking the wooden dutch door, ears pinned in a fake aggressive face. Some would back off in fear, but KC knew it was an act, and a weak one at that, because the horse immediately gleamed at the sight of her hand reaching into a pocket and pulling our his favorite, a pepper mint.
It was truly a chore, one she was all too willing to do, to get the big, tough six year old out of the stall without him plowing her down, and to get him to stand steady in the cross tied in the middle of the barn hallway. She was unsuccessfull, but talented at ignoring the constant scrape of metal on concrete. She scolded him, yes, ut after a solid twenty minutes, she gave in, and just continued on brushing him off. It was beautiful silence for only seconds when she hoisted up a hoof to clean out, the Corey began a series of body vibrating nickers and head shakes. "Cool your under used jets, babe." She muttered rather affectionately to the 16.1hh Irish Sport Horse.
Another task was leading the bridled gelding to the arena. The cool autumn air was fuel to his fire, and it was no less than five times they halted and stood for two minutes, and no less than ten times that he put his head down and powered forward, attempting to drag KC in the dust and dirt. "No." She reprimanded firmly, not jerking on him, but simply staying strong against him.
It took several minutes to travel the short distance to the arena, and KC sent the gray off on the line immediately. The ring was not being used yet, which was good, her gelding needed to get out his bucks and rears, and she felt better knowing no one else was in harms way. It was mere seconds before Corey shattered his easy walking with a buck and began to tear across the arena, making sharp angles when the lunge line came to an end. She ducked his head between his knees and struck out wildly with his hind hooves, arching his back and crow hopping to show off his being fresh. This carried on for a while, and then he settled into his cute, uphill canter. "Trottt..." KC emphasized the word, but Corey was oblivious to voice commands at his current state of mind. With a sigh she pulled slightly and lifted her hand. She carried no whip. She wouldn't need it.
Finally, the big gray slowed to a floaty free trot, head near the ground, lips brushing the sandy surface frequently. "You nut." She laughed, a soft, liquid sound. And apparently, this was taken as an insult, because Corey slashed his tongue over the bit with little effort, a houdini really. He even had his figure eight noseband on. Oblivious to her struggle, the gray stormed off toward the opposite end of the arena. Taken by surprise, KC landed flat on her stomach. She let go of the rope, watching her horse bolt and kick untill sliding to a halt at the arena fence. She was happy he didn't jump it.
Oh, this would be a long day. She had to get this guy focused and working, and that would be a task in itself. She groaned, rolling over onto her back and staring at the now light sky. The dust settled around her and she rolled her eyes, hearing heavy foot falls behind her. Mealy lips lipped her hair, and she looked up at the horse, her horse, her amazing, talented, crazy horse. With a heaving sigh, she pushed herself off the ground. "Corey one. Me zero."

he ealy morning rays of the peeking sun let his eyes flutter open. It was his first day in the state of Kentucky. Already different from the rainy town of Forks, Washington Striking emerald green eyes flew all the way open. Had Sea Star arrived, yet? If he had, hopefully the mighty stallion hadn't killed any one.
Even through his docile appereance, Sea Star was a wild horse. Born on an island in the middle of the pacific. Spending his first three years there. Along with Reece. The boy sighed. He still felt as if he could smell the lush green forest. Sitting up, he looked to the pile of brown and white fur beside him.
Coconut, no one knew what in the world he was. The little guy about the size of a very large rat, but he had a fluffy tail and racing stripes! Large black eyes looked up at him, the animal letting out an exited squeak. Reece touched his backm letting his hand rest on the thickening cat like fur.
Time to gethis butt out of bed. Heaving another sigh, Reece got to his feet. Standing the full five foot eight. His hair was a giant mop on his head. Dark brown strands sticking this way and that. He went onwith his normal morning routines. He got in the shower and stood under the steaming water for a moment before washing ihis bed head over twice.
His body felt fine, only covered in small scars he had received earlier in his life. After sliding into some loose fitting jeans and a t-shirt. He went to the kitchen in his small apartment. He really didn't need a house. Sure he had a lot of money from his book but, he used it for other things lke food. Besides, it was only him and Coconut. And it wasn't like the mammal took up much space.
Speaking of Coconut, the little fluffy nutcase was stalking a small grasshopper that sat on Reece's notebook. He paused, wnting to watch the show. Coconut froze, seeming deep in concentration. His whispers twitched and his tail waved mindlessly back and forth. Then, BAM! He pounced on the bug. The grasshopper hopped out of the way and Coconut went after it. Failing each tme to catch the little buger.
Reece chuckled lightly and ran a comb through his hair, at least letting it lay almost flat on the back of his neck and on his head. He slid on his riding boots and moved to the tiny kitchen. Grabbing an apple and Coconut's favourite, a papaya. He was off. Coconut climbed up his back and onto his left shoulder.
The barn was chaos when he arrived. Sure, Sea Star was used to a fenced in pasture but, he was never put in a stall before. The stud didn't sound happy. Large, powerful hooves shot out from behind im, denting the wood, almost breaking through. The stallion squealed unhappily. His ears pinned against his skull. Teeth just poking out from a velvety muzzle.
Coconut burried his nose in Reece's neck as the boy jogged to his horse. There was an instant change. Poseidon calmed himself and looked at Reece with an irritated, horsey expression. Reece half smiled "I guess they didn't know. Let's get you out of there." he said softly. Other horses of many different breeds turned their heads to watch the giant stallion emerge from his prison.
Pure muscle rippling under a silk coat. His mane was as long and wild. His tail the same. Sea Star actually reared to almost ten feet tall. Sending out a shrill call before coming back down. Reece instantly threw his arms around the muscled black neck. Sea star did not need a halter, he knew to follow his boy. He knew he had to protect his boy at all costs.
The black stallion was used to other horses, now. He payed no mind to the other equines around them, all of them in one of those tiny boxes. Reece took hold of the long mane. Letting his fingers tangle with the long, wild locks of hair. Coconut jumped onto Sea Star's back, sitting just behind the withers, withers that were poking above the sixteen-year-old's head.
He was 17.2 hands of pure muscle and attitude. He was a stallion. Soft brown orbs turned to look into the boy's green ones. The two held such a strong bond. They saved each other. They needed each other. Reece took a step forward. And Sea Star, acting like a total gentleman, matched his stride. His hand rested on the mighty stud's ripped shoulder as they walked along. Coconut just going along for the ride
People of all ages and races began to show. Almost every one of them looking over at the trio of Trouble. Finally, Sea Star began a steady trot toward the arena, which was already occupied. But, he didn't care. Both of Reece's hands were knotted with the long flowing mane. Then, he jumped onto the huge horse. No saddle, no bridle. Coconut jumped onto the writers shoulders and clung to the back of his shirt with long pointed claws.
Poseidon trotted on. His trot high and even. With one hand on the withers, while the other held onto a huge handful of mane, they moved to the gate. With small taps to the barrel, Sea Star scooted up close, he eyes the smaller horse. Confused. That horse was male, but he didn't smell male. Odd.
With the gate open. Sea Star took a small step in. His muscles loose, an ear pointed back to listen to Reece, while the other faced the frisky grey gelding. With the click of the closed gate, Sea Star bolted into a flat out run. Taking off around the arena. This was his version of a warm-up. Reece held on tight, while Sea Star galloped. His stride eating up distance.
Reece's heels tapping against his barrel, Sea Star whinnied happily. His head high. Reece looked over at the pair, just to see the woman on the ground. He smiled kindly as she gt back to her feet. Green pools went to her horse. He studyed the animal's conformation again. He was about to ask Sea Star for a steady trot but, the stallion had other ideas. He spun around and cantered toward them.
Legs of iron barely making an effort to move. "Ho!" Reece demanded quickly. even for a mostly untrained stallion, he knew that simple vocal command. With a snort, Sea Star slowed to a stop. Lowering his head, taking a deep breath.
Reece lowered himself to the ground and smiled at the woman, clearly older than him. Sea Star suddenly threw his head into the air and screamed. Reece looked back at him and laughed "There's nothing there." he shook his head and grinned. "Hey, I'm sorry about him if he bothered you or anything." he said cheerfully.
His stallion was known to give others a hard time. Of course! He was kinda pushy and demanding. Well, that was just the wayhe was. The wild stallion turned his head and stared at the gelding. With a quiet nicker in greeting he turned his head back around and looked out to the barn.

KC muttered incoherently to herself as she absently swiped dust from her shirt, vaguely noticing the dust sprinkling her face. She blinked, eyes watering slightly, due to the particals invading her vision. She rolled her shoulders, stretching slightly. She didn't mind the dirt, in fact, she barley noticed it. She frowned, now seeing the other horse and rider, that she had not seen enter the ring as well.
She eyed him, as he slowed by her. Corey shook his head violently, fighting his tongue. He'd gotten it over the bit. That was his fault, and she'd let him mourn for himself for the time being. The males 'ho' startled her, and she looked up sharply, eyes on him. The sheer height of his horse would intimidate some, but KC knew better. She stood her ground, paying no mind to the big stallion.
Her eyes followed him warily when he slid off the horse. He seemed a good five years younger than her, so she shamed herself inaudibly for thinking he was attractive. Was she old enough to be a cougar? Her guess was as good as any other, but she couldn't help it. She was only human. Before he spoke, she turned and made and effort to catch her gelding.
She snatched up the end of the lunge line before the gray could evade her once more, but by that time, the boy was speaking up. She turned her head, as if gazing over her shoulder, but not looking at him, instead staring off into the distance, waiting for his sentence to end.
When he finished, she shook her head, looking back to her horse, and collecting the line untill she approached his head. She gave his twitching muscles a soothing pat, and then turned to face the brown haired, green eyed gaze of the younger man. "You didn't affect him at all. He hasn't been worked lately." Her words were soft, musical, and accented with the Australian hint of her heritage. It nearly prooved she had a beautiful singing voice. One of her few talents.
The dappled gelding beside her stretched out his nose to bump the stallion, and gave a resounding squeal, as if insulted. He arched his neck, and pawed once before KC had pulled him away with a scolding "No!" She cupped his muzzle in her hands and blew into his nostrils. "No, baby, no." She shook her finger at him as if tsk-tsking a four year old. Then she ganced at the boy. "I'm KC. In case you wanted to know."
Thats when she got an eyefull of the black stallion. He was a spitting image of the black. She gazed at him thoughtfully, then smirked to herself, before the guarded expression returned to her face. "Don't tell me your name is Alexander.." She pleaded half-heartedly, eyes careful.
KC doubted that this boy would ever attempt even one move, ever, but she had had bad experiences, and ever since, had been locked in a three walled cage, with one entrance that she constantly guarded. Never would she be close to a male. She had her animals. Thats all she needed, right?
She swallowed slightly, tense and farely rigid. Suddenly shoved about three steps forward. She backed away quickly, looking back at her gray with an accusing glance. "Sorry." She muttered weakly, as if she could mean it. She really had to get over it. He was way to young for her. Way to young.

He took her age into account. Se was very attractive but, too old. Five or so years, maybe. He stroked his stallion's shoulder with a moment of silence. The huge stud becmoing bored. He bobbed his head and snorted. He wanted to run!Coconut stayed hidden, for now. Not a hair on his body could be seen from the older woman.
He rocked absentmindedly back anf forth on his heels. He studied her voice for a moment. A musical tone, definantly accented. Australian? Neutral green eyes looked away for a moment. Arms crossed. He wasn't sky, even though that's what his exterior said about him at the moment.
Sea Star looked over at the gelding and bellowed in irritation. Coudn't that horse be a gentleman and stand still? Yet, the onyx stud himself was getting incredibly bored. He shook out his mane and stomped a hoof. The small animal clinging to Reece's back looked over at Sea Star, his whiskers twitching.
Reece smiled warmly, glancing at his Black. Only that his black stallion wasn't an Arabian and he was much, much bigger. Said to be the second tallest horse in Shady Lane. Already being aware of the nasty tempered Clydesdale. With a chuckle, he understood her comparison to his stallion. "Well, sad to say but, no. My name is Reece." a friendly smile took over his features. The stallion behind him finally had enough of standing still and took off around the arena. Bucking and rearing, far away from the other horse and two riders.
The young author watched his horse releive his boredom. Knowing that the black stallion wouldn't attempt to knock down the fence, he turned back to KC. Having her only steps closer to him, stepping away just as fast with a weak apology.
He instantly knew something must've happened to her in the past. He would respect that. It wasn't like he was going to try anything anyway. "It's alright." he spoke softly, nt wanting to make her uncomfortable

She flinched slightly when the big horse charged off, mainly out of surprise. Almost immediately she disguised her discomfort and gazed at him carefully. "He's a beautiful animal." Corey was now standing stock still, eyes following the bucking and bolting stallion.
KC frowned, studying the creature she now noticed across his shoulders. She was about to raise her voice, but that would be too social, now, wouldn't it? She reached out absently and stroked Corey's muzzle. The gelding looked at her, as if shocked by her touch. Her delicate mouth twitched, as if attempting a small smile, but she masked it, and instead whispered to her horse. "I know, I'm so cruel to you, baby."
She patted his neck before looking at him awkwardly. There was nothing to say, nothing to do. And thats when her mind drifted. If only he were older... If only he looked older, even. If only. If only. If only. Life was just filled with if only's. She sighed softly, and averted her eyes from his, feeling his stare, and feeling the heat flame up to her cheeks, making her look small, feel small.
Corey shook his pulled mane and stepped forward, shoving his nose into Reece. KC's eyes shot up in surprise. "He.." Was she imagining things? Corey had a worse past than even her. Torn apart, beaten and ruined. Trusting strangers was not natural for him. She breathed out, collecting her posture again, cheeks still pink from the natural blush. "He... He likes you." She searched for the right words to say, taking a step toward her horse, and tripping over herself, ending up closer to the boy than wanted.
Dammit. Her mind hissed. Why the heck was she so clumsy now, of all times?

A smal bay mare passed the arena and..Sea Star went into show off mode. He threw his head and squealed. Trotting around to the opposit side of the arena. His gait beautiful and flowing. As if his feet hadn't even touched the ground. Like the stallion was floating on a nice fluffy cloud.
Reece always had a creative mind, writing all his ideas down, he was actually working on a new novel. A smile spread across his face. Turning back to KC, he could hear her comment clearly. He beamed "Yeah, he is. Same with yours." he returned the comment kindly. She did have a stunning gelding. His stallion was now looking over the fence. Finally standing still.
He watched those passing. Prancing after mares when they past. Reece chuckled. Poor guy. He felt a claw go into his back and jumped slightly. "What're you doing back there?" the coconut brown animal poked his head through Reece's arm.
Then, the little animal returned to his back. Sticking his nose on the back of his neck. Reece reached back and scratched his head. He kept his eyes on KC, easily catching that blush. A normal kid his age would've blushed right back. Reece, no. He acted like he was in his twenties. People often mistaken him for eighteen or nineteen. Somehow, he kept kind of a straight face. His lips twitching up into a smile. A brow raised.
He opened his mouth to speak but, found himself being attacked by a large grey gelding. "Well, hello." he said softly, having a feeling about the horse's past. With gentle fingers, he reached up and stroked the gleding's finely toned neck. "He likes me? Well, I guess he does." he pursed his lips and thought for a moment. "He doesn't like many people?" he asked simply looking down, finding her closer.
Well, everyone ha one of teir off balance das. Letting his hand drop awa from the geldin's neck.

KC nodded sweetly, gently, hesitantly, touching her gray's shoulder and brushing off a speck of dust. The horse was absolutely glittering, spotless, and at the right moment, even looked like he belonged in the spotlight, something she took great pride in. She looked at him carefully, noting he had done nothing to acknowledge her pink face. She sighed.
He exclaimed something uncomfortably, apparently directing the comment to the little creature on his shoulders. She smiled, for the first time, genuinely smiled. "He's cute." She smiled rather shyly. At that moment, he didn't seem his age, at all. And she confided this fact to herself. How possibly be so young? Why? He looked so... So innocent. Looked, anyway. And she immediately corrected herself that the man who raped her had looked innocent too. Trusting was not her forte.
He was taller than her, making her feel even smaller compared to him, despite the age difference. She had to look up to meet his eyes, not that she had attempted such a feat yet. Meeting his eyes would mean letting him see her soul. Letting her barriers fall. And she wouldn't risk that.
"Yes, I mean..." She cursed silently. "No, my beau doesn't like many.. err... any strangers." Her mind was swearing at her violently. How stupid could she be. She turned to the horse, guiding his face aside from Reece and stepping past him, cringing as her shoulder brushed his. She closed her eyes weakly, and lead him back to the center of the arena.
She fed out the rope quietly, erging him into the fluid gait called a trot. He snorted eagerly and actually worked for only seconds, then that dreaded sound came. In the next arena, a whip cracked. Someone else lunging another horse. Twice it slashed through the air and echoed loudly. The geldings haunches tucked beneath him launching about ten feet in the air, and twisting the opposite direction. "Easy," she remained calm. But even this panic was calm before the storm. And she knew it.
He slammed down and bolted, legs flailing in all directions, and frankly, places that weren't even considered directions. She closed her eyes briefly, and when she opened, the surprise was enough that she stood like a deer in the headlights. At the last second, she sidestepped, but Corey clipped her shoulder. The sheer power was enough to drop her to the ground, but the pain was blinding.
She didn't feel the impact on the ground. She'd once shattered her shoulder blade, and never had it healed completely. Corey careened across the arena, toward Sea Star where he slid to a halt, wheeling, and charging the other direction. KC muffled an outcry, instead it came as a weak sob. Her shoulder was burning as if her blood were liquid fire. She squeezed her eyes tight.
One thing you should know out KC. She never cries. Ever. Crying is not something you catch her doing. KC is brave, and highly tolerant of pain, so this had to of hurt like hell.
She shoved her elbows beneath her and she went to push off before the bullet like pain drew her back to the ground with a soft cry. She rolled to her left, pushing herself off the ground before tenderly reaching for her injured shoulder.
Her fingertips had barley brushed the shirt before the affliction made her lean forward with a gasp, the sudden movement only bringing the agony on more. She squeezed her eyes tighter. But she wasn't fast enough. The sun caught the trickling diamond that escaped her glowing, tormented eyes and rolled down her face, like a waterfall of one.

He completely understood about a horse's trust. Thos who had lives of abuse were usually stained for life. Trusting only the one they care for the most. The one who actually decided to care for the equine himself. Reece put his fingers to his lips and let out a quiet whistle. His stallion stopped hitting on mares and looked over at Reece and whinnied, taking off into a trot around the arena.
Coconut squealed a the sound of the whip and actually jumped down Reece's shirt and stayed there. Whimpering quietly. The young boy now had a lump on his back. Oh, poor Coconut. He never did like the crack of a whip. Neither did Reece. There were better ways to train a horse. Quieter ways.
He spun around at the gelding's explosion, and the cry of pain from the girl he had just met. Sea Star was going insane. He lept this way and that. Snorting angrily. Running around the arena. Charging at the other horse behind the fence before quickly changing direction and running the other way.
Reece froze for a moment then quickly walked toward KC, seeing a tear. A single tear was all it took. He stopped only a few inches away. He didn't dare touch her shoulder but, it looked pretty messed up. "Are you alright?" a stupid question but, it just slid past his lips. And he couldn't take them back.
Coconut slid down his back and onto the sandy surface. Standing onto his hind legs he sniffed the air. Reece studied the wound for a moment longer. Guessing that she hd an injury to her shoulder before.

She clenched her teeth, angrily swiping the tear off her face. KC Castine Dane did not cry. Crying was weakness, and people took advantage of weakness. She knew that all to well. She dropped her hand dropping her head slightly, not expecting anything but to sit still and quiet, and deal with her own pain. And oh, lord did it hurt.
Her shoulders heaved slowly, painfully. It hurt to take in breaths, and she didn't know if something else was broken, or if it was just the result of the breath being knocked all the way out of her. She didn't know, she didn't care, she wanted to die. Right now death seemed about as comforting as sleep.
She relaxed and stayed motionless for seconds, a sledge hammer pounding against her shoulder every time she sucked in even the smallest bit of oxygen. She flexed her fingers slightly, then her wrist, and elbow, they all felt fine in exception the ups and downs of the pain. Gah, dangit. Was her shoulder flipping bipolar?! As soon as the wound dulled to a steady ache, it shot up once more, and made her grow rigid.
Footsteps were heard but disregarded untill they stopped. She glanced sideways, knowing immediately who it was, even from her spot on the dirt. She slashed a good hand across her face, forcing the tears that threatened to dampen her palm, not her face.
He spoke, asking a rather stupid question. And KC was oh so ready no snap back a smart comment, but she didn't want to upset the boy who seemed as if he should wear a halo. She groaned. "Mmm.. Do I need to answer that?" She spoke slowly at first before spitting out the last few words and wincing at the end.
"It hurts." She told him the obvious with a flinch, not yet daring a move to try and stand. Then she explained in pained words. "I shattered my shoulder in a fall.. Two months ago. I'm still supposed to be mending, but Corey can't wait that long." She tilted her head back, smiling weakly. It was a forced, but not fake smile, as she added. "How could I stay away from the barn that long, anyway?" She gasped pushing off the ground in an attempt to stand.

He instantly regret that question. Why did he care to ak it? He already knew the answer. He ran a hand trough his hair and mumbled something along the lines of: "No," Sea Star finally stopped his panic and walked over. Standing beside Reece who now knelt beside the hurt woman.
The stud lowered his head and nickered to the human mare, confused. Why was she hurt? He reached out with a light muzzle and touched the velvet nose to the woman's cheek. He was a gentle stallion, knowing that he'd be scolded if he hurt anyone. With another soft nicker, he took a faint step back and watched. A long fetlock hanging over his left eye.
Coconut stood quietly behind Reece's leg, still wary of this woman. The young boy wanted to examine her shoulder up close. He listened closely to her short story. Two months! "By what you're saying, I'm guessing it's dislocated, or broken. I'm no doctor but, I might be able to put it back in place." he said quietly. Emerald eyes watching, waiting. He wanted her ok before hedid anything.
Having tended to a shoulder wound before, Reece had some experiance from what she was saying. He wasn't a big know-it-all. Standing quickly, he stood close, ready to catch her if she fell.

KC smiled faintly at the warmth of the muzzle pressed against her cheek. "Good boy." She looked at the stallion.
She made it to her feet shakily. She wanted to fall, collapse, heck, even bash herself across the head with anything that would bring sweet silence, sweet nothing. Then her mind fluttered once more. Falling would cause more pain, but perhaps she could relax in Reece's arms for the only one time.
Ateast she'd have an excuse if she fell on Reece. She was off balance. Dizzy. Lies. She was not a liar. No matter how much she trusted you, or hated you, she would not, could not lie about it. Maybe he would assume, and she wouldn't have to say anything. Just stay there, because she would never be able again to touch him.
Maybe she'd pass out, and fall in utter blackness, and not even know if he left her there or not, for maybe a few hours.... NO! She would not be rendered vulnerable like that. Never. Never again. Not that she thought Reece would do anything, but she wouldn't take the chance. It also left her under the decisions of another. She might end up in the hospital.
It wasn't that she had oh so common fear of needles. She doubted any human enjoyed the prickle of their skin being broken by a dull, or even sharp tipped metal object. But she wasn't afraid of them. She was afraid of being alone. Hospitals had a feel about them. A feel of death. And KC wasn't afraid of death at all. She even wished for it right now. But being in a so dead place while you're so alive, made her feel out a place, and frightened.
She glanced up at him slightly, still avoiding his eyes. He was a good three inches taller than her. He spoke of him trying to place it back. Ah heck. Why not? She was already in enough pain, why not let a total stranger put his hands on her and help? Not! But instead she nodded. "Ok." She looked at him quietly now, finally glancing upward to meet his eyes.
She hadn't noticed his green eyes so much before. They lit up his face with kindness and innocence. And she cursed him for it. Him being so cute was not helping with his irresistable draw that she doubted even he knew about. She wasn't sure what exactly he was going to do, so she stood and waited, now silent, now attempting a relax through her misery. Her eyes flitted to the little creature, now on the ground. Then she brought her eyes to his. She trusted him.

Reece was a very observant man. Keeping silence, seeing beauty in everything around him. He, knew what the world had to offer. At times, the Earth gave him pain, others. She gave him life. Now, at most. He had been given a friend, perhaps. He studyed the pained expression across her beautiful features as she pondered siently on the thought.
His intense mind began to wander, yet not far enough to where he couldn't ring it back. His soft green eyes sincere with his words. He would try not to hurt her. Yeh, there's be pain in the process of fixing her shoulder yet, it would make all the difference. Reece's mnd put itself back into place. Even though she was hurt, his lips were tilted up slightly into an assuring smile. One that easily read "It'll be alright."
Their eyes met, and he instantly knew he had caught her trust. Looing into dark depths of blue, he saw more to this woman. She had a hard past. Something ba had happened. Something very bad. He knew now to be careful and gentle. Of course, he naturally a love bug. Making friends easily. Sure, he had his grumpy moments. Preferably on Mondays'. Everyone hated Mondays' but, he always survived the day with a smile and a positive attitude.
He gave a slight nod. His mind running back to him. Makig him have to remember what in the world he was going to do. "Ok, it's going to hurt but, at least you'll be able to move it." he said solemly takinga step around her, now standing behind her.
With the hand of an angel, he very gently touched her shoulder blade, letting his free hand trace her other shoulder. Comparing the two. Yes, is was definantly a misplacement.
Meanwhile, Sea Star stood protectivly over the small woman. As if protecing a mare. He watched his boy with interest, curious as to what he was doing. He blew warm are toward KC, his intellegent brown pools settled on her blue gaze.
Reece now knew where and what he was doing. Taking a slow step to the side, he slid his hand into hers. His eyes filled with deep concentration. Gently, he ifted her arm until her arm itself touched her shoulder. Reece's hand layon her shoulder blade. His fingers spread.
Then, putting preasure onto the dislocated shoulder. He pushed her shoulder and arm together Hoping for a satisfied pop. Gradually, he kept adding more weight. He could guess what serious pain he was putting her through but it was to help. He really didn't want to hurt her.
Finally, after what seemed like hours. He heard and felt the pop and snap of a bone returning to place. He let his hand drop but, he kept his other in her own for a moment longer before letting go. Returning to her back, he compared once again.
She would be sore for a while but, she'd have mobility of her shoulder. He put on a satisfied grin "See if you can roll your shoulders." he commanded softly, wanting to know for sure. He prayed he hadn't hurt her more

His nod was meant to be reassuring, and she almost believed it. That was, before he made the comment. Hurt, hurt. Why did everything have to hurt? Pain, pain. Why was everything so painful? She flexed her hand, focusing her attention on that, but she couldn't help but feel the knot in her stomach tighten to an impossible degree, in fear, and pain.
He touched her shoulder. The lightest, gentlest touch she'd ever felt, but pain racked through her body. She flinched away from the touch, closing her eyes tightly. "It..." She paused breathlessly. "Hurts, already."
She looked at the big black stallion. She immediately focused all her attention on the chiseled features of the horse. His long legs, lean barrel, muscled haunches. Low, sloping shoulders. Long, naturally arched neck... Why couldn't he get it overwith faster? She was utterly terrified!
She took in a quick breath when his hand slipped into hers. Good lord, this boy had to have a girlfriend! So gentle, so sweet. So warm, and easy. And he had to be romantic. That was just a given, now, wasn't it. She grew stationary and tense, eyes shimmering and weak.
And pressure was applied. She stayed still for a moment before the pain increased wildly. It spiked through her shoulder, down her back, and sending down the soles of her feet, like the shock of hitting an icy hard ground, like the pricking of a thousand needles traveling from toes to nose. She waited, and seconds later sobbed out in pain, before clenching her teeth tightly, grinding them against each other.
She cringed at the curel, bone jarring sound. But immediately the dropped intensity. Her knees weak, she fought off the urge to collapse to the ground. Rare tears streamed down her face, but she had since stopped crying. She'd also grown used to the wetness, and could not feel, nor did she care, about the salty water.
She felt his hand slide from her back, and his hand dropped, but with hers. Her own fingers reached, trailing along his skin as he pulled from her tight grip. She was tempted to hold on longer, instead she just luxuriated in the unrational feel of his presence. She blinked, last tears escaping as the pain dulled.
Then he lifted his voice, and commanded her. She was terrified to move. Would it hurt worse? She doubted it. But the fear was overwhelming. She closed her eyes briefly, and spun her shoulders back. It hurt but was better. She twirled and hugged him. It hurt, slightly, but it was tolerable. She still winced, but hugged him tightly, arms around his neck.
"Momma?" KC gasped, and shot around. The little girl had a bouncy set of honey blond curls twirling into her amber eyes. She couldn't be more than three. She immediately kneeled, all traces of pain gone. She had to mask it for her daughter. She would not let her know. Never could she show weakness to her daughter. She opened her arms slightly, the little girl sprinting as fast as her legs carried into the warm embrace. "Hey baby, how was grandma?" She started, muttering things to the girl inaudibly for a few seconds, the girl nodding and smiling brightly.
"I even wen' swimmin', Momma." KC smiled sweetly. "That's great, love, she murmured, kissing her forehead softly. She hesitated briefly, and turned to Reece, the guarded expression returning. She was scared of what he would think. Yes, she'd been raped. Yes, this was the result. And Fayth was the love of her life.
She cast her gaze downward. "Reece, this is Fayth." She began with intense hesitation. [n]"My daughter..."
[/b] She dared a look up, as Fay pointed accusingly. "Who's you?" She frowned, blond brows furrowed. KC spoke firmly. "Fay, baby, no pointing, remember?"[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Reece noticed her pained reaction, his eyes growing softer yet, he knew he hadn't hur her more. Thank the lord. He let a breath of releif escape his lungs. Hisown tight muscles relaxing. His lips parted to speak but no words came as he suddendly came to realize that her arms were tightly around his neck
A hug. He told himself. It wouldn't be polite not to return it, right? He didn't hesitate. His arms slid around her, gently. If one looked closely. They would see that his cheeks turned a light pink. Mixing well with his pale skin. The brown rodent instantly retreated up Reece's shirt. That only happened when.
He looked over to see a little girl, around three run up. Momma? His green eyes instantly wen to KC, hearing her gasp. Was that little girl her daughter? She had to be. There we no othr women around here? His arms slid away as KC kneeled. He studied the little girl for a quick moment.
Those curly honey locks boucing on her forehead. Amber eyes that seemed to be able to light up a dark room. She was tiny, meaning she probably wouldn't be very tall as an adult. Maybe average size. He watched them interact with a smile on his face. She was adorable. Reece personally loved children. He wished to havesome of his own of course, when he was older. Sixteen was a ridiculus age. Still, he knew of kids who already gave up their virginity. Some were even parents Even too young to leave their own. It wasn't right.
Reece's gem like eyes were scrutinizing in a kind way. They showed curiousity and interest. They were the eyes of a writer. He felt a little trembling head poke out of the back of his shirt (which was his favourite "hiding place") Coconut's big black eyes watched quietly. His whiskers tickling the back of Reece's neck, making the boy twitch a little.
Sea Star took imediate interest in the little girl. He had never seen ahuman so small! She was a pony! Thats it! Smal humans must be ponies! He nickered and took a big step forward to sniff her. He lowered a velvety nose and took in the little girl's scent. She smelled like...She smelled funny. He lifted his head and let out a happy whinny. Lowerig his head again to look her in the eye.
Reece was chuckling lightly "Don't eat her Poseidon." he laughed, only a swish of his long tail, one that smacked Reece right in the face. His animals were all going against him! Coconut now sat on his head. Reece didn't know why he liked it so much up there but, he let the animal stay.
He didn't understand for a moment. Where was this girl's father? He compared the two. Pushing away the fluffy tail that wrapped around his head, almost covering his eyes. It was then, he understood. The bad thing that happened in KC's past. She must've been...raped! How awful! No wonder she was so shy around him. She was probably shy around everyone but, men...How could she not be wary around any guy?
He couldn't believe that men could do that to women. Didn't they know that they were people, too? No, they weren't only good for sex. They were better than that. Being able to do a majority of things a man could do, maybe even better. He heaved a sigh and brushed Coconut's striped tail out of his face yet again.
The sun was out, hitting the fluffy animal's fur just right to make him burst into colour. Instead of the dark coconut brown, he turned into a beautiful chestnut red. Sea Star had backed away from the group and trotted off. Reece smiled to KC, not quite finding the right words to say.
He looked down at Fayth. Fayth, was a beautiful. He might use it one day. He smiled at the three-year-old. "Hey Fayth, I'm Reece. A friend of your mum's" he spoke calmly. Introducing himself to the little girl. His smile was never wiped off his face. He turned to look for his horse. The stud standing on the opposite side of the arena. Reece put his finger to his lipsand let out three quick whistles.
The stallion bolted toward him. Slowing as he got closer. He stopped beside the teen, lipping at the animal on his head. Coconut jumped onto the horse's back while Reece's fingers weaved themselved through Sea Star's mane.
He watched the pair. His features light and pleasent. Lookng as if he could never hurt a fly. All three of them. Three crazy boys just watched the interaction between mother and daughter.

Fayth's golden eyes widened in surprise at the lithe creature on Reece. "What's that, Momma?" She asked, dependently looking at KC for the answer. KC smiled faintly, setting the little girl down. "Why don't you ask, Reece, baby?" She encouraged. It took very little encouragment for the interactive child. She took several quick, short steps toward Reece. "Ree...seeee. Wha's that?" She pronounced his name heavily, determined to get it right.
KC smiled, glancing at the big horse, curious about the little human. The black stallion seemed so innocent, she even believed a halo should sit poised atop his head. But no. She stayed where she was. Fay had a way with horses. Or seemed to, anyway.
Fayth turned instantly, as if forgetting completely about her previous question. She sighed inward, eyes bright, excited. "Black.." She cooed, reaching up a hand to stroke the stallion calmly. Like her mother, Fay wasn't easily intimidated, even by the tallest of horses. Fay giggled sweetly, touching the horse's cheek.
KC looked at Reece, a bit late to see his initial reaction, but he seemed okay about it. But she studied his eyes, while he was preoccupied by other subjects. He seemed thoughtful. He looked down on her daughter affectionately. Apparently he liked kids. Which was a plus, meaning he wasn't disgusted with her.
Then something else crossed his young features. She gritted her teeth. Did he know? Of course he didn't. She'd given know clue, hadn't she? Her own thoughts drifted toward the idea of him knowin. Her initial instinct was to panic, but she easily supressed the emotion. She would never show fear around her daughter. How could he possibly know?
Never mind it. She couldn't take back what had happened. And she didn't even know if he knew for sure. She sighed and returned her attention to her daughter who seemed easily content and happy. Then she moved carefully to look for her horse.
The gray had ceased his panic, but was standing tensely, his ears flicking nervously. KC looked once at Fayth and then slipped sideways and made her way slowly toward her Irish Sport Horse. He did nothing but watch her approach until she drew closer, in which he lowered his head. "Easy, baby boy." She comforted, stopping by his head and reaching up, with a wince, and scratching his poll gently. "You wore yourself out."
Fayth was grinning from ear to ear once he spoke. She watched the stallion travel toward them with glowing eyes, and emmitted quite a giggle when the fuzzy animal jumped onto the horse's back. KC returned, leading a thoroughly worn out dappled gray, and KC smiled as he daughter spun and came to Corey. She held out a tiny hand, the gelding lowering his muzzle and licking it softly.

Coconut was just a little fluff ball of energy. Even though he was six years old. Reece didn't know how long his lifepan was. He still acted young. He was a little bigger now, more fur in the colder weather. The stallion's head was lifted proudly. Watching all the other horses come and go. He whinnied happily at the mares. Most responded with a call of their own.
Sea Star spent the first three years of his life alone with Reece but, he easily took to other horses. Especially ponies. His old stable mate, Fuzzbucket was a shetland pony. Reece had been looking at another horse. He needed one he could probably put a saddle on. Sea Star didn't even like the halter.
He dropped his hand from Sea Star's shoulder, Coconut once again on his shoulder. He eyed the dapple grey, not paying attention to Sea Star's muscles suddenly tensing up. There was a scream from another stallion. Stallions, Sea Star did NOT like them. The Friesian reared up kicking out with his front legs, returning the call with a violent scream of his own Reece could only back off.
He stepped toward KC, Fayth and Correy. The very angry stud took off toward the fence, Reece cursed under his breath. There was suddenly a war going on from over the fence. The two stallions making as muchnoise as possible. Reece went after his stallion, while the owner of the bay thoroughbred went after his! Te bay was easily a hand shorter than Sea Star. Fear in the older man's eyes. He tried to calm his horse and pull him away but that didn't work.
Reece finally made it to Sea Star. The Friesian was very angry. He snorted, hooves flying as he reared. Reaching out to bite the other stud. Reece took a handful of mane and pulled hard. The wild horse let out a low and angy bellow. Reece pulled his stallion's head around.
The once gentle horse was a killer now, his ears were pinned flat against his skull. But, Reece succeded in getting his horse away. The Friesian bucking and kicking at nothing. Doing anything he could to get the tension out of his body. Reece had to run to keep up eith the brute's fast trot. Hands in mane he threw himself onto Sea Star's back. Letting him take off into a flat out run.
The stallion bucked and whistled angrily. Reece had to keep him away from the trio in the center of the arena. Sea Star would kill them so easily. When the stallion was mad, he trusted no one but Reece, he would attack anything else.
He ran around and around, not even slowing. Reece waiting patiantly for his tantrum to stop. Only now he was holding on for dear life. Stallions, Sea Star had always been kept away from. After almost killing another stud in California. Luckily the other horse lived but, Reece had to pay the bill from the vet.
Finally, after minutes of running in circles, Sea Star froze in place. Sides heaving, head low. He had gotton the anger out and now, he was tired. Reece looked like he was run over by a truck. He slid off sideways with a sigh.
Sea Star nickered, his head low. He was glued to the fence and, by the looks of it. He wasn't going to move. Reece stumbledhis way back to KC and Fayth. "Sorry." he muttered, running a hand through his windswept hair.
Well, what do you expect from stallions? He sat down on the sandy surface looked at his stallion. His head was still low.

KC pressed her lips vaguely to the girld bouyant curls, closing her eyes briefly. Fay was staring, as if intriqued by the little creature that took his pick of places all over Reece. Head, shoulders, back, shirt, every where. Her delicate eyes squinted, studying the little animal closely. Really, what was it? It closely resembled a rat, or animal of that stature, yet he was bigger. But hid fur was that of a cats silken pelt. Whatever. Fayth gave up as her three year old attenton span strayed to the black stallion.
KC didn't flinch from the big horse as he reared. He wasn't close enough to inflict harm yet, and if she knew one thing, it was to never back down from a horse unless it was positively, downright stupid not to. Corey jerked his head up, popping her shoulder back a bit. Thats when she flinched, closing her eyes tightly until the sting dulled back. She loosened her grip on the gray, allowing him to swing away and out of the way of the Friesian stallion.
Almost immediately, KC fished a peppermint from her pocket, holding it flat-palmed to her dappled gelding. He crunched it quickly, wolfing it down as if he was starved, before turning on a dime to stare at the bolting black. KC frowned and turned Fayth's attention to her, carefully averting her attention from the brutal battle about to occur. She spoke in low, sweet tones, muttering inaudibly to her daughter, making her giggle, which caused a smile on KC's face to appear, but her own attention never left the two beasts.
She was amazed by the talent of Reece with his stallion. Not many a horse would halt an attack just because a human turned their head. Her eyes glittered with interest. Trust was abundant between the pair. So amazing they were. Corey trusted her, yes, alot more than he trusted many. They both had pasts to forget, and they were good at forgetting together. As long as Corey had a steady schedule of work.
The big Friesian powered away from the fence, stress spilling from his muscles as Reece took a bound and launched onto the broad back of the black horse. The whole time Sea Star streaked about the arena, KC made a valiant effort to keep Fayth's back to the menacing looking stallion. She couldn't help the hot fear that boiled in her relentlessly. She knew the stallion was a machine, easily, just by watching him now. If they got in his way, there would be no stopping him. It was a scary thing, having your life in danger. But it was even scarier to think of Fayth's life being in danger.
Reece did a good job keeping the black away from the trio, which impressed KC to no end. It had to be dfficult to control him. Then agan, she only had a small idea of how tight their bond really was. She figured it was larger than the lives of both of them combined. When the stallion slowed gradually, KC paused, stopping her spinning. She set Fayth down softly, watching the little girl twirl off to see Corey who was standing at the end of his lead, obviously bored now, head low, ears drooping, and eyes half closed.
Reece had to be tired, if not more so than Poseidon after his little run a muck. She crossed her arms tightly, for a few seconds, before dropping one to her side and using the other to strip the ponytail holder from her hair. She obviously wasn't riding today. The pain was too intense. She needed something to soothe it, and no matter how much she wanted to believe it, riding wouldn't do that. Her mahogany hair fell in a thick wave down her back. She spun it around before letting it fall loosey and brushing a few escaped strands off her shoulders with a wince from the angle she bent her shoulder to do so.
She smiled faintly, so faintly she doubted it was even a smile, at Reece as he approached with a sorry. "No problem. I kind of understand your trouble." KC had a stallion herself. Four year old Show Down. The chestnut stallion was an amazing jumper, and lived for it too. Sadly, she was not a jumper, but an eventer. Gunner didn't take well to the cross country phase, so he was for sale as a jumper with dressage potential. But the big 17.2hh horse needed to jump. It was practically what he lived for.
KC gave up. Why was she trying to hide everything? Her life, her pain. Her fear. She turned absently to Fayth. "Fay, babe. Why don't you take Corey to the stall for me?" She asked. The little girl obliged with the brightest smile ever seen. Corey was amazingly gentle with the little girl. All animals seemed to take to Fayth, it was her talent.
KC moved toward Reece again and kneeled beside him. She looked at him softly. Was she selfish for wanting this? For doing this? She wasn't sure. She didn't care. So what if he never wanted to see her again? That was probably already the case. She closed her eyes for one moment before opening them once more. His attention wasn't on her. Maybe that would work to her advantage. Maybe it wouldn't. The world was full of surprises. She sighed slightly, leaned toward Reece and pressed her lips against his so softly. Her own lips whispered against his so gently, she almost believed she'd missed, but she hadn't. She was sure.
It was so wrong, but she wanted it so bad. So, so bad. She was too old for him, wasn't she? If only he were eighteen. It wouldn't be so bad. She closed her eyes on instinct, but made no move beside that. She knew not what his reaction would be, and she wasn't stupid. It felt like hours waiting for his response, though it had been merel seconds, if that. She was scared, yes, to see what he would so as her lips met his, but she almost didn't care. She felt... different, around Reece. She felt different from herself. She felt the same as everyone else. And she didn't know what to call it. But she thought everyone else called it love.
ooc;; I totally felt like adding drama to get my muse kicked back up after by off-time. xD Sorry if that was so fast, but I think its quite a fun post. ;D Love ya, and soooo glad to be back!

And then there as Sea Star. Standing far away, flank to the fence. He hung his head and heaved an unhappy sigh. His ears tilted back. He looked completely ashamed of himself. But, could he help it? He was bigger than all the other stallions. He wantd to show that he was boss! Especially if they hurt his boy! No one could hurt Reece. He watched them with bi brown eyes. Watching the little human foal take the gelding away.
Reece watched his horse while his horse watched him. Yeah, they held a bond so strong it seemed that one could not live without the other. The stallion was halter broke but, he hated the thing and he followed Reece no matter what! Halter or not. Reece had never ridden another horse. Not one. Only Sea Star.
Subconsious picked up KC's movements, but his mind was of course, wandering. His brain shot back into his skull when her lips touched his. His eyes were wide for just a moment. This was indeed a kiss!? He relaxed and let his lips do the talking. They moved with hers for a moment.
Their mouths molded together almost perfectly. Her full lips feeling like silk. A hand moved itself up to carress her neck, his eyes closed at last. It seemed like hours, but that didn't matter...Did it? He actually loved the feeling of the soft kiss. He was only sixteen, though..All guys his age could kiss a monkey and feel the same thing.
But, she was so sof and gentle. So was he, right? Their age difference came to mind. Oh! If only he were older! But, KC was so beautiful. Maybe the definition of the word. His heart thundered the whole time. No, age didn't matter. Age was only a number, not the person itself.
He pulled away, almost reluctantly. A small smile on his face, green eyes bright. "Uhh, well that was.....umm." he paused looking for the right words "Unexpected." It was, his heart still stuck in his throat and beating fast. He heard the sound of hooves behind him. So, he learned his lesson?
Sea Star reached down to sniff them, mostly KC. He appearently saw the kiss and was curious. He touched the velvet muzzle against her forehead then began to lip at the back of Reece's neck. The boy was still lost in thought tht he almost ignored the tickling at the back of his neck.
The little furry animal was no where to be found. Having scampered off after a bug or something. But, he would always come back. Reece looked at KC for a moment before beaking their gaze and looked up at the massive stud. He scratched his poll while a nicker escaped from Poseidon. His mind still thinking about what just happened. But, a kiss was like so many other things in life. There one second, and gone the next.
ooc: Fast? Noooooo. This post was fun and so is drama!

KC relaxed when his hand brushed her neck. A slight tremor ran down her spine, yet she stayed perfectly still. Her heart thundered at an impossible rate. She stared at the back of her eyelids, allowing instinct to take over. She was crazy, wasn't she? She was tempted to regret her decision of kissing him, but she couldn't help it.. Damn! Why was he so good at kissing!? She was so tempted to stay there, under his light touch, they're lips together.
KC loved this feeling. She'd kissed no one. Atleast not willingly. The kiss she knew was rough, and forced, and always against her will. She hated it. And honestly, thats why she loved animals they way she did. Not only did she have a love of animals before, but it was so much more so now, because of her past.
Animals loved unconditionally. They'd wait for you to come and be so happy to see you once they recognized your face. Like Corey. No matter how much he seemed to hate her, the horse absolutely adored her. He'd never harm her on purpose, but he had his own right to be terrified of the cracking of whips. She didn't blame him. And it wasn't his fault that he had so much boundless energy. In fact, he was down right amusing when it came to his spazz attacks.
She sighed inwardly and stayed with him for the longest she could, until he pulled away. She was reluctant, but happy she'd made no move to slide her arms about his neck. The pain would of been intense, and she would of felt even more awkward, dropping her arms away from him. It was also funny how she found intwining arms around someones neck to intimate a notion. Yet she'd kissed him only seconds before.
He spoke, and her cheeks flamed. The exotic looking female dropped her eyes immediately and purposely. Her hair flooded her face, and she was grateful for it. It sheilded her from his look, but when she looked up, cheeks still warm and pink, he was still meeting her eyes, and silently she cursed him for being so attractive. Her lips were curved in a sweet, but faint smile. She wasn't upset with her decision. Slightly embarassed, yes, but she didn't regret it. She'd enjoyed it. But instead she replied softly, eyes not leaving his even when he looked up at his black stallion. "I'm sorry.."

Sixteen-years-old and this was indeed his first...real...kiss. Yeah he'd kissed a few girls but, nothing like this. Sea Star nickered softly to him as he watched her face, studied her features and all the beauty they held. Long dark hair flowing down her back like a waterfall. Eyes so deep and blue while his held the green of the emerald. Exotic features seemed to light of the day, even as a cloud blew over the sun, casting a shadow on Earth.
A cool fall breeze brushing against both of them. Part of him wanting to move closer, but he held his position. Keeping a white smile, directed at her. His eyes held a childish look, making him look somewhat his age. Eager and innocent. Just like a child. He hated to admit it, but. He knew that deep down...WAY deep down. He was still a kid.
He heard her quiet apology and he couldn't help but chuckle lightly, smiling. "Why are you sorry?" he asked quietly, curiousity filled his voice, same with his eyes. He didn't know why she apologized. The best kiss of his so far young life and she says sorry? His eyes took on their more "adult" look to them once more. While waiting, his head flew away. Thinking, observing. Taking note about how beautiful the fall was on the east.
The trees changing and their leaves littering the ground. Maybe as if a toddler was finger painting, mixtures of so many yellows, red, oranges, even purple. A reason why his favourite season was the fall. The best time of year to take nature walks. Taking notes of what you see.
Like, seeing a doe and her growing fawns nibbling on some leaves or grass, bounding away once you're spotted. He thought of the wonderful crunch that the leaves made when you stepped on them. Thinking of that, he thought of little kids making big leaf piles then jumping in them. Only to feel sad when their work has been destroyed.
Then, there was Halloween. The time you're allowed to dress up in school. The time you get to put a fake spider in your teacher's desk and get away with it. And when the night falls. All the ghosts and gouls come out to get their candy. Just enough to stuff their faces when their parents weren't looking. Only to suffer from the after Halloween blues, getting sick form eating too much sugar.
Reece was nine-years-old the last time he went trick-or-treating. Sure, he dressed up every year but, he was never able to take his friends out with all their little siblings. No matter the argument they were commanded to watch the little kids. Going from house to house. These days Reece was always on book tours, or some talk show.
Or, just sitting at home writing something new that just happened to pop into his head when he was gretting ready to do something else. No matter the case. Reece didn't mind. He had his inspiration and his friends.
And now, everytime he looked at KC, his heart beat faster and his palms felt ready to sweat. He never really payed much attention to women, he thought of them mostly as friends. No matter how many girls he'd turned down in the past. Yeah, inside he was a romantic. He liked to flirt sometimes. But, it was all in play, his lady friends were always laughing and having a good time..He loved that! And now, he looked at KC and saw more than just another girl. He knew now that he liked her, more than friend liked her.

KC looked down at the sandy ground for a few seconds, malling over her thoughts. Absently, she traced a finger through the creamy grains. It was an intricate design, pretty, delicate, full of floral patterns. It nearly resembled a rose, tightened around it a vine of thorns, but really it was a blob on the ground. Sand wasn't the best to draw on, especially when the sudden, unexpected gust of wind ruined her design. KC was an artistic person, but did little to attempt to further her ability. It didn't really matter to her anyway. Horses were her life. She finally dared a look up.
She caught his eye, and her mind automatically wandered. What did he see? She self-consciously looked down at herself. She could see the wavering mahogany tendrils that fell onto her shoulders. The texture was smooth, soft, and had a healthy shine to it. She knew her eyes. That piercing blue could even halt her in front of a mirror. It wasn't conceded to love your eyes, was it? The aquafina color was streaked with intriguing silver streaks, streaming toward her pupil, yet you had to look closely to see them. She knew he saw her creamy skin. Her fit body, yes, even a mother could be in shape.
She she looked up at him. What did she see. Stylishly displaced brown hair. The color of rich dark chocolate, her heart melted at the thought. She shook her head slightly to clear it. She met his eyes. His gorgeous, inquisitive emerald eyes, like shining gems themselves, bright, and painfully innocent. Yet, when he serioused up, he looked every bit as old as her. Even though KC wasn't old, she was older than him. She had been so stupid to kiss him. So, so stupid.
Her heart thudded against her chest wildly. Her pulse thundered in her temple, so loud she swore Reece had to hear it as well. Why was she sorry? She opened her mouth, then paused, closing it again. Why was she sorry? She mauled it over, repeating it in her mind time and time again. That was a good question, why was she sorry. And then she frowned coming to a conclusion, not an answer to be spoken out loud. Her cheeks flamed and she dropped her gaze again. She didn't get it. She'd met him only an hour, maybe minutes more than. But the truth was, she wasn't sorry.
Finally the young woman gave up, rocked back and laid with her back to ground. She winced as her shoulder came in contact with the sandy surface, but she honestly didn't care. Her hair splayed out behind her, and she closed her eyes, confusion pulsing through her veins. What was she supposed to do? To say? She wished she could just kiss him again and quit the charade. But she wouldn't do that again. If he wanted a kiss, he'd do it, not her. She sighed heavily and stayed still, eyes remaining closed as she replied. "I don't know." She started, and paused, taking in three slow breaths. "I just am, and I have no idea why I did that and what you think of it." And she stopped talking, laying quietly once more.

Sea Star trotted away, getting bored while Reece never took his eyes off of her. Being who he was, he obseved her in silence. How the light seemed to light up her hair in many different shades. He then looked into thos gorgeous ocean eyes. So blue, so beautiful. He noticed the pale silver streaks within them.
He wanted to much to reach out and touch her, the temptation almost overwhelming. He was trying so hard to keep his unpredictable sixteen-year-old hormones under control. Somehow, he managed. But, the uncomfortable trobbing in his head and hips stayed. He....Wanted...Her. No. He had to stay under contol.
When she lay back, he wanted to lean over her. He found himself shifting positions to do so but, stopped. He couldn't be like other men. He kept his struggle hidden inside him. Instead of leaning over her, he simply crouched beside her.
He held his emotions in place for just a moment while she spoke. Offering a small smile, he flopped down beside her, now. Keeping himself propped up on his elbow, looking down at her. "Well, you don't have to know why, and you don't have to know why you did it. All you have to know is that I liked it and I hope that you did, too." he bit his lwe lip or a moment.
He wanted to kiss her again. Right then and there but, he wasn't going to force her to do something she didn't want to.

KC lay for a few seconds, taking in his words, running through her brain until every little syllable had been analyzed and memorized. Too lost and absorbed in her own mind, KC felt, nor heard the movement beside her. When her eyes opened, they widened in surprise, meeting the gentle gaze of those tempting green eyes. KC hissed at herself mentally, annoyed with the vulgar thoughts she not dare reveal.
The exotic girl held his gaze for a second, before managing. "You.." She stopped, breath trailing uselessly. She nearly rolled her eyes at herself, but stopped the action before it happened. "You like it?" She said simply, as if she couldn't believe what had been said. As if she couldn't believe it was true. And the thing was, it her head, it couldn't be true. It just simply wasn't possible. But that was KC's world. This was the real world, and things didn't always go the way KC thought.
She studied the way he lay beside her, leaning, almost looming over her. KC swallowed faintly, looking at him quietly. She sighed for a split second then gaze at him a bit harder. And for a moment, a smile appeared. "I liked it, too." KC would of criticized herself, if she had been thinking straight, but she wasn't, and it felt good for once, to let her guard down, to relax, to be happy. She lifted her arm, injured shoulder and all, and gently laced her hand around the back of his neck, she gently tugged him down, to give him the idea, if he didn't already have it, and looked at him quietly.
"Kiss me, Reece." She said softly.
ooc;; Short, sweet, and to the point.

When men are tempted for something, like women. They feel what seems like an itch, and Reece was ready to jump up and run around in circles. He shifted his weight around a lot. Trying to keep his hips busy in just moving from one spot to another. His success didn't last much. He wanted her! Was that too much to ask? He wanted to kiss her, hold her, protect her. All a man's instinct packed into one.
For the millionth time, he felt like he was ready to explode. Then, she spoke. His small smile grew in size "Yes, I liked it a lot." he said, sounding braver, now. He observed her facial expression for a moment, seeing what looked to be a look of shock. Like she couldn't believe it. Part of him couldn't believe it eather. He was Mr. Girls are just friends. Never going much higher then that. Even when his ladies were being all flirty with him.
Then she said that she liked it, too! He grew even more exited, still not letting it completely show through but, his heart pounded. His lips parted to speak but nothing came out. He closed them and gave her a toothless grin. Just a simple gesture that said that he was glad she liked it, too.
Then there came that simple demand and her touch on the back of his neck. Smiling, he scotted closer, and closer until his left hand rested on the other side of her body. His whole upper half covered her. But, he kept his waist far away.
The lowered himself, off to one side not putting his full weight down. His left hand went to curl around the side of her neck. Leaning down, he paused, their noses touching and their lips almost together. Why hesitate? He smiled once more then touched his lips to hers. Lightly at first but, he grew a little rougher, like a real kiss. Still, he still held the same gentleness and sweetness that the first kiss had.
His right hand searched around until he took hold of her hand. His lips smoothing over hers. Quickly memorizing the feel. And this time, he wouldn't pull back.

KC felt oddly relaxed as he leaned over her, her eyes soft, watching him quietly. She was scared that it felt so right, him there. She breathed in slightly, holding her breath for a split second, mind wandering over what could happen. When she let it out, their noses were brushing, his lips brushing just above her own. Oh, do it already! She almost begged, fingers biting into the sand uselessly, then relaxing once more when his lips touched hers.
Panic nearly seized her when the kiss grew stronger, braver. Memories flooded back to her, but she shoved them away. This was her moment. Horrid memories wouldn't ruin it for her. A simple tear escaped one eye from the earlier fear she'd felt, but she believed it would go unnoticed, or she'd pretend as if nothing had happened. His hand searched for hers, and her fingers locked, laced with his. Her hand cradling his neck moved down his back, where she tangled her fingers in his shirt, as if she was strong enough to hold him down with her injured shoulder and all.
KC stayed silent, suppressing a quiet moan. She brought her body closer to him on instinct, all precaution vanishing. Her mind drifted toward Fayth. She was sure the little girl wouldn't be around for a little while, though. Untacking a sixteen one hand horse was quite a task for the little girl. For a second and a half, she remembered her daughter. The lushious golden ringlets, the simple, sweet, oh-so innocent eyes. And she smiled through the kiss, tensed muscles loosening. She loved the feeling of being in his arms.
