It was a quiet morning. Sawyer decided to have both horses in the pasture. His dog, Sparks follwed him with the two black horses. The two horses walked on either side of Sawyer. They didn't even need lead ropes. They followed their blind owner like lost puppies. Really big puppies.
Sparks sat down beside their pasture and barked so Sawyer knew where it was. He led the two horses into the grassy area. The gelding, Brit trotted a few feet away to graze. The stallion, Breeze stayed near Sawyer like he always did and grazed beside him. Sparks nudged his leg and dropped something at his feet. Sawyer knelt down to pick up the same stick the dog found two days ago. He smiled "Don't you ever get tired of fetch?" he asked standing up his full 6' 3" and listened to his surroundings. No horses in the pasures beside him. It was safe for fetch.
The dog led him forward. Clear away from the gelding so he wouldn't spook at a dog catching a flying sticks. The horse knew that sticks don't fly. And dogs chase birds. Were there any birds around? No.
"Alright." Sawyer said pulling his arm back far enough that jerking it forward realsing the stick. Sparks turned tail and bolted after the small piece of wood that he just had to catch. If he didn't he might die. He was a master at catching-sticks-fu. If there actually was a catching-sticks-fu. Sawyer could hear his paws kick up as he lept for the stick...and missed. The stick landed softly in the grass about three feet from the 2 year old mutt.
He trotted back to Sawyer who waited patiantly. He dropped the stick at his feet and sat down and tilted his head. "You gonna catch it this time?" Sawyer asked after Sparks began to whine. Sawyer flicked his wrist forward again the stick spinning through the air followed by a clumsy Sparks. This time he suceeded in his quest to kill the stick of doom. It snapped in his powerful jaws. Sawyer began to laugh when he heard the crack of the wood breaking. Also at Sparks's dissapointed whine.
Breeze lifted his head and whinnied as if wondering what he was missing. Brit nickered but didn't look up. He was lost in the sweet greenness of the grass. It was so sweet and...green. Sawyer chuckled sitting down crosslegged. Sparks walked over and lay down his head on Sawyer's chest. Breeze came over and stood a few inches behind them. Brit seemed to feel left out. He took a few steps forward his nose still on the ground.
The sun heated the ground. Feeling the sun on his bare arms made him calmer. There they were! The whole crazy crew of bachelors enjoying the morning sun. Nice isn't it?

jenn had spent nearly the whole day in the barn. even though it was almost lunch time. since it was her day off she decided that she would tend to brownie's needs. after all, he had many. first, she'd feed him and give him a few treats to start his day off well. then, after he finished eating she would give him a bath. it had rained the nice before so brownie had decided to roll and toss in the mud. but at least it kept the flies off. but he didn't look very good anymore. he also needed his tail nicely brushed out. jenn hadn't gotten around to it since he left the shelter. after he dried out she would probably have to brush him off. like most horses brownie enjoyed rolling in the dirt after a bath.
then she would ride! she wanted to ride yesterday and was out on the trail for nearly five minutes before she had come across aso and his "missing horse." she wasn't able to ride for the rest of that day and promised she would make it up to brownie. so she intended to run him pretty hard today. then she'd take a stab at finding another horse. sure she had just gotten brownie but he was only a rescue and jenn wanted to compete once the shows got underway. she wanted to race as well. so maybe a nice thoroughbred or a big horse that she could run for a long while before he got worn out. and definitely a gelding. jenn wasn't quite that in to mares. they were a bit too tempered for their own good.
brownie lived in a paddock. she had already fed and given him treats and now was time for his bath. she through the halter and lead rope over her shoulder and made her way outside. it was then when she noticed a boy sitting down outside one of the pastures with his dog and a horse behind the fence. she hadn't seen him around before, but she had gotten her fair share of meeting boys. there seemed to be a whole lot more of them around town than there used to be. but she couldn't just walk past without stopping and introducing herself. she wasn't that rude. so she walked over. hello i'm jenn. i haven't seen you around before.
[/b] she said with a happy smile and eyed the dog who was panting and had a piece of a stick hanging from his mouth. then she noticed the boys eyes. they were faded and like none she had ever seen before. she wondered what it was but didn't dig too deep into it.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

Brit looked up and looked over his shoulder to see a girl and another horse! He let out a cheerful whinny when they began to walk over. Breeze looked up and just nickered, sticking close to Sawyer who sat up to the sound of his horses shuffling around. He placed his hand on his stallion's shoulder. Breeze nudged Sawyer's cheek directing him to face the girl and her horse.
Sparks instantly dropped the stick he was still killing and trotted over to investigate. To give Sawyer the "OK" the hint that she smelled good. Not that Sawyer cared weather people smelled good or not but, he let his dog greet them anyway without much of a thought. Sparks looked up at Jenn with exited amber eyes than trotted over to Brit laying down beside his legs.
Sawyer focused on her voice as she spoke. He took everything in in just a few sentences. First of all: She was the second person to even talk to him. So he having a party inside his head. Dancing around screaming loudly. But outside he was just sitting there like an idiot still trying to figure things out.
Her voice was higher in pitch and friendly. Not very shy. Geez! Was he the only shy person in the ranch?! Felt like it. He sighed inwardly. Than smiled warmly "Hey, Jenn. I'm Sawyer. I'm not surprised you haven't seen me around before. Kinda new." he said shyly like he always did. He was blind, and very shy. What's with that? Maybe it was because he couldn't see who he was talking to. He was never shy when he could see. Well, kinda.
OOC: Sorry it's so short 0_o. Kinda low on muse

brownie pawed the ground anxiously at the dog and began to spook a little when he came and greeted jenn. jenn patted the gelding's painted black and white neck. it's okay bud he won't hurt you. she said and smiled at the dog who trotted back towards his owner. brownie stood patiently when the dog went away but continued to eye him. if he goes anywhere near my precious jenn again he will suffer the consequences. of course brownie was overprotective of jenn. after all, he was a rescue horse and he knew jenn saved his life. now there was nothing more that he wanted. jenn was all he would need until his last living day.
jenn listened with open ears as the boy introduced himself. it was then when she noticed how he looked. he wasn't looking straight on to jenn. it looked like he was looking a little over her shoulder instead. she crooked her eyes a little and had the feeling that he had a disability. blindness? was that true? she didn't want to believe herself and she didn't want to ask, knowing she'd make a fool of herself if she had been completely wrong. she continued on the conversation like there was nothing wrong. jenn was never the one to judge someone of anything. the last time she did was her ex boyfriend, and she never heard from him ever again. he still lived back in colorado and he always said he would come visit, but they haven't even called.
she smiled at the boy and the dog and watched as the horses payed attention to their owner, if the horses belonged to him. well sawyer it's very nice to meet you.
[/i] she said but didn't bother putting her hand out to shake. she was a little more shy around disabilities, but once again, never the one to judge. it's just sometimes she didn't know what to do. she didn't want him to think she was some creepy girl. especially if he couldn't see her. you're dog is sure cute. what's his name?[/i] she asked and got down on one knee for the dog to come on over so she could pet him. brownie was out grazing a little bit away from the pack. his lead rope dragged on the ground but if he was eating jenn knew he wouldn't run away. and the dog was far enough away. yet, he still eyed his master closely, making sure nothing bad would happen to her.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

He gave her one of his famous blank stares. His foggy eyes were unresponsive. Brit nickered and touched his velvety nose to Sawyer's back. He blinked than sighed. He hated it when he did that. But it couldn't be helped. He heard her quick silence than the change in her voice. That made him even more confused.
Was there something wrong? Did the fact that he stared at her funny make her suddenly shy? Sawyer had to be one of the happiest guys at the ranch. He liked everyone else to be happy, too. It was just who he was. A person who loved a positive Aura. That was how he got to know a person and usually how the person acted.
Sparks slowly made his way back to Jenn. Sniffing her hand again while locking eyes with her horse. He did that while Sawyer was thinking about what to do. Well, more or less about what to say. Another thing about this boy, he took a long time to think about things when he met new people.
Maybe to make himself feel less weird, if that was even possible, he should just come out and say it. Tell her he was the blind guy that ran around the ranch. The one that stared at people when they talked to him. All he could do was try to figure out if they were talking to him and not someone else who was close. Someone that made very little noise.
He decided to stay quiet about his blindness when she mentioned his dog. His dog who decided to get a little flirty. He wagged his tail touched his wet nose to her cheek. Was he ever going to know he was fixed? And that he really needed to stick with his own species when it came to the girls. Sawyer smiled and found Sparks's thigh and gave it a gentle pat.
"This is Spark's. Sorry, but he likes to flirt with anything female." he said with a few quiet chuckles. That's when Spark's whip-like tail whacked Sawyer in the side of the head like a wreaking ball. It wasn't expected so Sawyer fell over sideways onto his elbows. "Thanks, Spark." he muttered rubbing his jaw. Maybe Sparks was part lab. Sawyer knew how their tails were. He was also used to the fact that his brother was always smacking him in the back of his head. Now that was rubbing off on Sparks. His own guide!
Sparks didn't care weather or not he hit his master in the face or not. Sometimes he deserved it. Actually on most days he deserved it. Still, Sparks was letting Jenn pet him. It just proved that girls liked the guide dogs better than the person their guiding. Well it was the dogs doing all the work! (Not really) but girls didn't have to know that. They really liked it when the dog were in their fancy uniforms holding their heads high. Winking at every poodle that walked by. It dropped 'em dead.
That and while the person the dogs were guiding were wearing those glasses with that weird smile on their face. Why were blind people so cheerful all the time. Sparks knew why Sawyer was. The kid had the greatest most handsome dog alive. That and two giant dogs that made weird noises and were able to carry Sawyer around on their backs.
(And that folks was a moment in Sparks's head. Whoo Hoo!)
Sawyer's jaw felt normal again. He sat up and smiled his regular happy Sawyer smile. He wasn't one to hold grudges against his dog. Now his brother and cousin. That was a different story. He was still plotting revenge on them. Even for stuff they did to him when he could still see.

brownie jumped a little backwards as the dog trotted back up to jenn. he had grass sticking out of his mouth and he didn't bother to chew it. he just stood there, watching the strange young creature carefully so that he wouldn't hurt his master. his ears perked forward and continuously paid attention. jenn scratched the dog behind the ears then on his chest. he was a bigger dog. bigger than she had seen in a long time. she smiled. hello sparks!
[/i] she said in a happy, baby-talk tone. brownie snorted and jenn stopped scratching the dog. he walked up to jenn and sniffed her hair. maybe it was his way of making sure that the animal didn't touch or hurt his mistress in any way possible. then he'd have to suffer the consequences. jenn pushed the gelding's black and white muzzle away from her head and jenn stood back up. she laughed as he said he liked anything female. she continued to eye the dog, thinking about how wonderful it would be if she owned a dog. she never had but there were dogs running around her old barn all of the time. seeing that brownie was scared of dogs now, she would have to put getting a dog on hold. after all she had brownie to deal with and that was work enough. she patted her gelding's strong neck then he went back to grazing a few inches behind her feet. she continued to watch sawyer, wondering if he had anything else to say. when he said nothing, jenn tried to make a conversation, staying off the topic of his eyes. are the horses behind you yours?[/i] she asked, moving closer and sitting in front of sawyer so they were eye level with each other. she got a good glimpse of his eyes. then it all came together. the dog must be a guide dog, he must be blind. when he realized jenn he wouldnt' stood up and maybe shaken her hand. but he didn't. she had never met a blind person before and was suddenly curious of who he was. did he ride? she'd be impressed. she couldn't imagine tacking a horse without being able to see. especially brownie and his ears. that would sure be difficult. but if these horses were his, and if he did ride, then he would have a story to tell jenn. miracles happened, but she never witnessed any.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

The stallion nickered at Jenn's horse. That mutt wouldn't hurt a fly. The only thing that dog ever hurt was an ant. That was when he accidentally stepped on it. The poor thing. Got stepped on by a fluffy pony. Not the best way to go.
Sawyer's hand ran down Sparks's back. Sparks wasn't paying any attention to him. He was glued to Jenn. Already. She was a nice girl. She had soft hands and a kind voice. When she spoke with baby-talk he tilted his head and wagged his tail. Why did people do that? Maybe it was some kind of weird instinct. Like emotions.
Sawyer waited for her to speak. Maybe she was waiting for him to say something. Yeah right. When it came to starting a conversation he wasn't the person to go to. Well, when you first met him that is. Once you get to know him than he'll start something up. Something that would lead to something weird. But yeah. That was Sawyer. He was the king of weird. Maybe even the king of the king of weird. Ah you get the idea.
Sawyer didn't realize she came even closer until she spoke again. A zillion questions filled his mind. Why was she closer? Why did the mood in her voice change so much? Maybe she was just like that. Sawyer wasn't a fan of that. He didn't like confusion. Still, he didn't judge. He just smiled and looked back at his horses. He didn't know where they were. Well, where Brit was. Breeze stood quietly behind him grazing. Brit was one of those horses known to wander. Breeze picked a spot and stayed there.
"Yeah. They're both mine. The one right here is Breeze. And the other one, the gelding. I don't know where he is. But he's Brit." he said knowing that she'd want to know their names too. Breeze nickered at the sound of his name. He looked up and walked over to stand directly beside him. Breeze touched Sawyer's shoulder before returning to grazing. He reached up and patted the horses neck.
He loved his horses. And they loved him back. Especially Breeze. The stallion protected and loved Sawyer as if he were his colt. Sawyer traced his fingers down his neck to his cheek than back up again and so on. This was the only way Sawyer knew his horses. Through touch. That's how he knew what they looked like. That was how he knew the difference between them. That and the way they sounded. Not many people knew. But each horse had a different walk. Each sounded different. It was hard for Sawyer to learn. But now he could easily pick one horse from another.
While he waited for Jenn to speak. He focused on learning her horse's different sounds. He tried to get to know as many horses as he could. Poor Sawyer had to learn everything. Memorize everything. It wasn't hard.

Ooc: I couldn’t resist! And I hope you all don't mind. *sheepish grin*
Bic: She wandered aimlessly towards the pastures, her astounding green eyes locked on one pasture in particular. She watched the other mares with no interest, and then she saw her mare. In far the back was a gray mare with light gray spots. Her white masked face gazing towards the ground as she grazed lazily on the greenery. The mare didn’t really get along with those of her own gender, but certainly it was completely ridiculous to put a mare in a herd of geldings or stallions for that matter. However, her mare somehow knew that if she attacked another, she would have to leave. She didn’t want that. Skylar stood on the white fencing. Her black boots blended into her black breeches. A bright pink shirt was what she wore, and she raised her fragile hand to her lips. With her fingers in place, she gave a shrill whistle.
The mare in the distance lifted her head. A look of excitement and thrill crossing her features. A loud replying whinny echoed across the earth, and she rose onto her hind legs beautifully. Her wild eyes sparked with her usual wild flame, and as soon as her hooves caressed the earth, she galloped forwards. She gave a few bucks here and there, and when the mare reached the fence she nickered eagerly. Her muzzle shoved into the awaiting hands of her five foot even owner. Skylar stroked her three year old untamed mare’s face. Secondhand Serenade was untamed, however permitted Skylar to ride bareback. Tack was out of the question, and the last time Skylar attempted to tack her up, she didn’t get far, and received a good amount of bruises. Needless to say, she left it alone until she needed to tame the wild spirit within her. But for now, she enjoyed what she was given.
Serenade nickered at her which made her hearing aids squeal loudly. The mares in the pasture were frightened, and Serenade watched them with a confused look. Skylar groaned and readjusted the frequency. Her blond hair fell to her shoulders in waves, but tomorrow she would go straight. Skylar moved without a word to the gate. Serenade pranced after her eagerly, and watched as Skylar opened the gate. Without a halter or a command, the mare trotted out and stood beside her. Like a loyal companion when Skylar walked, Serenade followed. Skylar kept a gentle hand on her muscular shoulder. Her mare was 15.3 hands high, and Skylar being at her height, always needed aid to get onto her back. She would ride Serenade later if she permitted it. Serenade looked at her, wondering what today had in store. Something new, or would their routine never change?
Skylar stopped as she barely made out the voices of people conversing. A little anxiously she looked over at them. Serenade nickered quietly, nudging her. She just let Serenade move her shoulder, but she refused to budge. Serenade stubbornly nudged her, and forced her to move forth. She swallowed hard. Maybe, just maybe, she would go unnoticed, and she could sneak by them. She walked carefully, trying hard not to make so much noise. It was hard to do on the somewhat rocky surface. Pebbles clattered against the surface, and aroused noises that were almost unheard by Skylar. Serenade kept a close eye on her owner as well as the two others. Skylar kept a hand on her shoulder, and Serenade tensed her muscles to make sure nothing was actually going to happen. Please, please… Just let me pass by. She pleaded, but Serenade had made her lose all hope by her loud whinny to the other horses in the pasture. Fuck. Skylar thought, groaning to herself quietly.

ears perked up quickly and looked towards the horses behind the fence. he watched the stallion and gelding and chewed the rest of his grass at the same time. his lead rope stayed wrapped over his withers as he put his head down for another mouthful of green grass and weeds. he enjoyed dandelions as well, and always went for those first. he shook his head and swatted his black tail at the flies near his hindquarters. and then he kicked at his underbelly, trying to get the flies from there. he was like the perfect horse. like nothing wrong ever happened to him. like his previous life was like any other horses' should be. unfortunately, that wasn't the story.
jenn noticed that the gelding, brit he called him, was in sight. jenn could see him perfectly. of course he was pretty far in the pasture but, still in view. then jenn confirmed it. the boy was blind. she suddenly had so many things to ask him and talk to him about. how was his riding and everything like that? it gave jenn confidence actually. this boy was probably just as good as her when it came to riding a horse. she didn't doubt it. she smiled at him and was about to speak when brownie lifted his head and turned it towards the barn. there was a girl and her horse walking. the horse didn't have a lead rope or halter or anything and jenn was impressed. the girl seemed like she was trying to hide from them. she wondered why.
just then brownie took off at a canter towards the mare and her mistress. jenn stood up quickly. brownie brownie!!! come back!!!!
[/i] she said and began to run quickly, then remembered sawyer. i'll be right back![/i] she said and then sprinted off after her gelding, who was just too curious sometimes. he loved meeting new horses and couldn't resist when it came to mares. especially pretty gray ones like this one. brownie whoa!!![/i] she said, chasing after her gelding with flailing arms and legs. brownie finally reached the two new ones and reached his muzzle out towards the mare's. jenn sighed and was out of breath by the time she got there. she grabbed the lead rope and tried to pull him away from the mare, but the headstrong paint resisted his owner's commands and continued to sniff the mare.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]
